Do you want a beautiful drought-tolerant yard, but aren't sure what to plant and how to do it? Bluestem Design offers both consulting services and detailed garden plans for the Do-It-Yourselfer. We'll help you turn your yard into a beautiful and unique oasis that uses less water and provides year-round beauty and interest. Our gardens draw from a diverse array of drought tolerant (i.e. xeriscape) plants that combine to create beautiful gardens. We work closely with you to understand your needs and desires and create recommendations and plans that work for you!

Detailed Garden Plans

Our full-service design provides you with a creative and comprehensive design that identifies the exact location of every plant in the garden and is easy for you to follow and implement in your space. Additionally, we provide you with all the information and resources you need to install the garden yourself. You can choose to tackle the garden all at once or to break it out into sections. This saves you the expensive price tag of having a landscape company install a garden that looks just like all the other gardens in the neighborhood.

Our design process starts with a 60-90 minute meeting with the clients. During this time, we gain a good understanding of your desires, needs and vision for the space. We then spend two to three weeks creating your design. Once the design is finished, we sit down together to review the design, talk about each plant in the design and to go over the entire process of installing your garden from start to finish. You walk away not only with a comprehensive garden design that identifies the location of each plant and detailed plant lists, but also with the confidence to install and maintain your garden on your own. Our design services start at $500 and vary depending on the size of the space, the complexity, and density of the design.

Consulting Services

We also offer consultations for those who need coaching or basic ideas and recommendations but aren't interested in a full design. We'll spend approximately two hours with you walking through your garden and talking about the space, basic garden design principles and how to maintain your current garden. Our time together will be followed by written summary of our discussion, including plant recommendations, for you to reference in the months and years to come. Consultations cost $250 per session.
